Letter from William Spry, 14 February 1891
Chattanooga, Tenn., President Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Utah Dear Brother- I arrived here last Tuesday all well, and found the affairs of the mission in a fairly prosperous condition. A number of baptisms have taken place during the past season, and the Elders as a rule have been kept at work in a very gratifying manner. Occasionally some will get a little discouraged at the outlook and think they are doing but little indeed, but with a little encouragement and the growth of renewed interest in portions of their fields, they branch out again with increased vigor and find ample oppor- tunity for doing good. As much as possible I move around among them but owing to the great distance some of them are away I cannot reach them as much as I would like. We have applications for additional help in some of our conferences owing to the interested manifested and we shall increase our force some 5 or 6 by the company of Elders expected next month. We can use them to advantage, and they will assist materially in spreading the gospel among the people.
