Ogden, Utah, Prest Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Dear Bro: I have begun the preparation of a concordance to the Book of Mormon. We have had hooping cough and diptheria, which followed the small pox, which raged in an adjoining town and carried off many of its inhab- itants. We had thirteen cases of small pox, five terminated fatally. We have had many cases of diptheria and dip- theria croup also hooping cough, fifteen children died out of those attacked. As there seemed some carelessness in getting around, amongst the children, after convalesence and spreading the disease, it was thought wisdom to close the schools until all the families afflicted could disinfect and cleanse their bodies and houses. A great many of our brethren are away working on the railroad, which makes this settlement have a deserted appearance. There are some improvements going on. But there appears to be some trouble at the Custom House. This house is at La Ascencion some 90 to 100 miles from Deming. Work on the grade is about 25 to 40 miles from Deming, and the Administrator at the Custom
