Letter from George E. Blair, 26 August 1891
Salt Lake City, Utah 189[1] Pres. Wilford Woodruff. City. Dear Brother: I am in receipt of a letter from Bro. Geo. D. Pyper Sec'y of the Y.M.M.I.A. informing me of my appointment to labor as a mission- ary among the young men of the territory. I have been aware of the cal^l^ since it was made last fJune. At that time I thought it possible for me to go. But business has been so poor since that time in my business^,^ Real Estate, that it would be a serious loss for me to now leave. I have recently taken charge of the business of the Security Abstract Co. It was an opportunitythat I could not afford to miss, and one es- pecially fortunate, inasmuch as I could combine my other business with it. I have made a contract with this Co. to remain with them for a certain time. I am also anxios to get clear of debt. I lay my the matter before you and know that you will appreciate my position. My heart is with the work of the Lord, and it would have given me pleasure to full- fil this mission. Kindly let me hear from you in the matter and be- leive me your brother in the Gospel of Christ, Geo. E. Blair {shorthand}
