Dear Brother, I was called, last year to fill a mission to the Northern S[t]ates, but was released until I completed a contract that I had, to furnish sand to the Teritorial Insane Asylum I have completed my contract, and will be ready to start about the fifth; of next month if you desire me to. Smithfield Cach Co, Utah To the first Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Greeting Respected bretheren, I have thought proper to address a few lines to you to ask a favor of you in view of my circum- stances. I presume you are well informed of my trials for a number of years such has been the condition of things that I was compeled to live the remainder of my days without a companion or make an effort to extricate myself and the only ^way^ was to get a divorce from the district court &c and not having the money to meet the expence. I borrowed of Bishop Farrell of Smithfield thirty five dollers last fall. The same is now due with interest at 1 1/2 per cent. Having become free I remarried last spring a young widow with three children late from London England. When she arrived in Salt Lake City, Bishop W B Preston sent her to Smithfield to Bishop Farrell to care for her. It was here where I became
