Letter from Joseph James Whitaker, 12 April 1892

Ogden, Utah, President Woodruff, Salt Lake City. Dear Brother: I note with pleasure that I should be thought worthy of being called on a mission to preach the everlasting ghosple; but my present circumstances will not in any way permit me to take the step—at so early a date. For the past few years, I have been engaged in building; and just now, I have incurred obligations that must be met—buildings just begun which will take sometime to complete. About three years ago when I was 19 yrs. of age I completed my studies at the B. Y. A. and since then have ben working hard to obtain money enough to further persue the same Studies

Letter from George Teasdale, 12 April 1892

President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Utah. My beloved Brother: I cannot express to you the happiness it gave me to receive your kind and welcome favor of January 30th which I received sometime in February & I have been so engaged since that I have neglected acknowledging it. But I have written you to keep you posted about my labors in the Mexican Mission. I am sorry to hear of your sickness and hope and pray you may enjoy better health and your presence and labors be contin- ued unto us for some time to come. We trust & hope you will be spared to dedicate the Salt Lake Temple and have your dreams realized. I can readily understand the weight of the business upon you and the natural care and anxiety you have to carry and am pleased to know Brothers Cannon and Smith are so considerate and care ful of your health. I do hope you will take all the rest you can and be careful in your diet. Try and live as long as you can. I wish you could pay us a visit here. About the time you were prepared for Conference I had a singular longing to be with you. As a general thing I am so engaged in my labors duties and travels that my mind to is well occupied. At the end
