Fillmore, . Wilford Woodruff: Salt Lake City— Dear Bro. Woodruff: Your letter notifying me to take a mission to the Southern States received. I am very pleased to know I am considered worthy of such a noble labor; but on account of the limited time for preparation, I am compelled to ask you for an extension of the time. Immediately upon the receipt of your letter I called on the Bishop, Bro Thomas C. Callister, who counseled me to write to you explaining my circumstances etc. I herewith proceed to do so: I am at present teaching as principal in the Kanosh District School. My school is expected to continue till about the middle of June. My financial affairs are in an unsettled condition.
