Letter from Dudley Ward Stone II, 13 January 1893
Ogden, Utah, President Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother I received your notice to prepare for a mission to Great Britain on April 29th. At the present time I am involved in debt to the Amount of $200000 But have plenty of property with which to clear off the same if I could sell some of it at anything like a reasoneable figure. I have made evry effort in my power since receiving your notice to make satisfactory arrangements but have ben un- successfull as yet. But if you will petition the Lord in my behalf I have no doubt that the way will be opened up so that I can be ready at the time appointed Your Brother in the Gospel D. W. Stone Moroni F. Letter from Joseph Franklin Simmons, 13 January 1893
President W. Woodruff, Dear Brother: You doubtless have now, or soon will have, under consideration the appointment of a staff of officers and helps for the Salt Lake Temple. Will you please consider my name as an applicant for position of clerk or recorder I was Deputy County Recorder for a number of years under my Grandfather, the late Edwin D. Woolley, and this gave me quite an experience in such business. I beg to refer you to Bishop George Romney for my standing and responsibility. Very respectfully, Your Brother, Jos. F. Simmons.
Letter to William Thomas Ogden, 13 January 1898
Salt Lake City, 189 Elder William T. Ogden, Richfield. Dear Brother: Your name has been suggested and accepted as a Missionary to Samoa. The work of the Lord is progressing in the nations, and faithful, energetic Elders are needed in the ministry to promulgate the Everlasting Gospel, openings for doing good appearing in numerous directions. Yourself, with others, having been selected for this mission, should there be no reasonable obstacles to hinder you from going, we would be pleased to have you make your arrangements to start from this City at as early a date as to leave San Francisco March 3rd, 1898. Please let us know, at your earliest convenience, what your feelings are with regard to this call. If you accept it you will receive no further notification, but will be expected to present yourself at the Historian's Office to be set apart on the day previous to that appointed for your departure.
