Smithfield, . Prest. Woodruff, Dear Brother: Brother Joseph P. Greene of this place has just been notified to prepare for a mission to the Southern States, he is now on a mission to the Sunday School Normal at Provo, and his class will not be through their Exercises until sometime in May. His mother just called upon me and wished me to tell you the above and ask if you would kindly let him stay at Provo until the class closes, and then he will be better prepared for a mission allsso. He is a real good young man and will make a good faithful missionary, one who will be a credit to the cause. please let me know if it will be satisfactory for him to start about the end of May or beginning

Letter from John L. Dalton, 23 January 1894

San Francisco Prests Woodruff and Counselors, Dear Brethren: Yours of the 15th releasing me is to hand. I cannot say that I feel thankful for it, for the reason that I have labored under very adverse circumstances, and it does not look like I have done anything. I am just begining to see a little of the result of my labors, and to leave it just now it looks like I have not accomplished any thing, I would have much prefered to have remained here an other year, But I have made it a rule of my life to do, in the church- as I have been told, so I bow in sub- jection to what you say but not with a thankfull heart, but with many regrets. I will abide your council and do as you have said. With kind regards to all, your brother J.L. Dalton. It is not usual that an elder receives his release to come home with unthankfulness, I think it is an indication that his release is timely. J.F.S

Letter from Thomas Clark Callister, 23 January 1894

Fillmore Bro. Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Dear Brother: Elmer E. Hinckley of this Ward was selected to attend the M.I.A. Normal Course at the B. Y. Academy which began January 8th 1894. He began the Course as per instructions. Your letter of announcement was accidentally misplaced and I did not recover it till today and had forgotten that you requested that the name be forwarded to you for which seeming neglect I humbly ap- ologise. With kindest regards I am Your Brother in the Gospel, Thomas C. Callister all right J. F. S.

Letter from Thomas Edwin Ricks, 23 January 1894

Rexburg, Idaho, President W. Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother, The enclosed letter from Gov. W. J. McConnell President of the Trans-Mississippi Commercial Congress inviting me to attend the convention at San-Francisco in February explains itself. As I cannot go on account of conference and for other reasons we would be pleased to hear from you as to whom you think should go from our stake. Kindly return the enclosed with your reply and oblige Your Brother in the Gospel T. E. Ricks Pres't Ricks, being on the ground and knowing his people, is better prepared to make the selection of a suitable man to recommend to the Governor for this purpose, than we are. We will leave the choice to him. And think he will make a good one. We are in favor of some one going if convenient. J. F. S.
