Letter from Ben R. Eldredge, 26 May 1894
President Wilford Woodruff. Dear Brother: I am in receipt of your letter May 24th in forming me of my call on a mission to Europe I have been very badly involved financially and for over a year have been trying to work myself out of debt. I am still owing a good deal of money and my re- sources are very low. I will however use every effort to so arrange my business that I will be able to leave on my mission at the time mentioned in your letter: viz June 16th Your Brother in The Gospel Ben R Eldredge George Romney, Bp 20th wd All right J. Letter from Ingwald Conrad Thoresen, 26 May 1894
Logan Utah, . Prest. Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Dear Brother: Replying to your letter of 16th inst., will say, that after carefully canvassing my affairs, I find it would be almost impossible for me to leave for said mission by the 2nd. prox. I have no cash on hand for travelling expenses &c., at present; and can find no cash buyer for some horse and real estate which I have tried to sell. I am also in debt about $20000. I have plenty to do, at fair wages, during the balance of this year, when my office as county selectman also expires, and by Jan. 1st 1895, with the help of Lord, I expect to be out of debt, and have some cash on hand; and if you can consistently excuse me untill after said date, I shall endeavor to be on hand and prepared for a mission to any part of the world where I am wanted. With the best of feellings toward the Work of God, I remain Your Brother in the Gospel, Ingwald C. Thoresen. J. F. Wright Bp [sideways text] Let his request be granted, until Jan. 1895. J. F. S.
