Letter from Thomas Heddock Hilton, 17 July 1894
To The First Presidency, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brethern:- Your kind favor of the 20th ult came duly to hand with the check for $40000; thanks very much. I also received my appointment to succeed Elder Ransom M. Stevens in the presidency of the Samoan Mission. Although I feel very weak in endeavoring to take upon myself such a great responsibility, and tremble within myself for fear I,- through my weaknesses, and imperfections, should make a misstep and fail to perform the dities of this high and holy calling acceptable before my Heavenly Father, I am thankful to my Maker, and feel to praise His high and holy name that I have been counted worthy to labor in His Cause, and assist in the spreading of Truth among this dark and benighted people. I humbly accept the trust you have seen fit to place upon me, and I sincerely hope and pray that I will be filled continually with the Spirit of God, that my every thought and deed may be actuated by the same; that I may perform the duties and labors enjoined upon me, in humility and meekness and for the best ad- vancement of the Cause of truth among this people.
