Presidents Wilford Woodruff, George Q. Cannon and Joseph F. Smith. Dear Brethren: We deem it proper to ask your Counsel concerning our Stake Academy, inasmuch as the brethren who have been teaching the last year without salary (Elders Newton Noyes and John Peterson) desire to know our wishes, and are willing and would prefer to teach in Church Aademy—at salary—if we so determine. Now the facts are these, our patronage has been very meagre from Settlements outside of Ephraim as we find that when students leave their homes, the larger Schools in the Territory have the preference, and many of the Scholars who have attended our Academy the last year have been unable to pay their truition fees, owing to the financial depression prevailing. We are already in debt, and do not feel it wisdom to assume the responsibility of carrying on the Academy, unless you should renew
