Dear Brethren: In the course of a recent conversa-
tion, Pres. George Q. Cannon enquired of me concerning the matter of
University students taking courses of study in Theology at the Latter-
day Saints' College. Not being able to answer the questions fully in
the few minutes available, and remembering your request made at the
time of the issuance of your Official Announcement concerning the sus-
pension of the Church University, that I make known to you the working
of the plan, I offer this brief report on the subject.
I expressed to the Latter-day Saints College Authorities through
the Principal, your wishes regarding the admission of University stu-
dents to the Theology classes, and asked that their courses in the Col-
lege be set at such hours as would be most convenient for our students;
and I believe the College Faculty has done its best in the respect of
time. I very soon learned however, that it was the intention of the
College authorities to demand of all University students who attend any
Theology course, the full admission fee of $10.00—as charged the regu-
lar students of the College. This was stated to me by Principal Done,
who conveyed the idea that it would be belittling the COLLEGE and its
Theology courses in particular to admit thereto on any special terms.
I gently protested against any such arrangement, explaining that Uni-
versity students are charged for even the full courses but $10.00 for
