Letter from Lester H. Froerer, 4 November 1894
Eden, President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City Dear Brother: In answer to your letter of Oct. 24, informing me of an appointment to a mission to the Southern States, I will say that my circumstances are such that I cannot see any means of leaving my present situation. I am under contract to teach the district school for this season; also have a small farm leased, either of which cannot be given up without considerable loss to both parties. I, therefore, ask to be excused hoping that future calls may find me in better circumstances Your Brother in the Gospel Lester H. Froerer All right. Let him be excused. J. F. S.
Letter from Thomas Heddock Hilton, 7 November 1894
To The First Presidency Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brethern:- Your welcome favor, with draft for $325.00 is at hand, many thanks for the same. The new missionaries arrived here in safety on the 2nd inst, and we were pleased to see them. With a few exceptions we are all in the possession of good health and spirits. Sister Hilton gave birth to a fine baby boy on the 12th ult and as he seemed to be an embodiment of health and strength we entertained fond hopes of rearing him to manhood; in this, however, we were disappointed as our Heavenly Father had willed it otherwise. On the seventh day after his birth he was taken with "Lock Jaw" a climatic desease peculiar to infants of that age, and upon the fol= lowing evening, Oct. 20 [18]94, his little spirit took its departure. We mourn for our dear ones but we do not feel to murmur but bow in humble sub= mission to the decree of our alwise Creator, and feel in our hearts to say with Job, "The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away, blessed be the name of the Lord." Sister Hilton is getting along
