Dear Bro.,
Your telegram of yesterday was received in
due time. It was a very great surprise to me to learn that suit had been h^b^rought agai-
nst you and my-self et al. for collection of the $2000 note.
I was aware of the fact that the old ^note^ had been taken up and a new one given, but
understood that the new note was to run 6 months are^or^ one year.
I now learn to my astonishment ithat it fell due about the 12th of October. I hav
e put in every hour of my time since receitving your telegram in trying to raise the m-
eans with which to pay the note.
I have conslu^ul^ted with the executive committe and board of trustees and they in-
form me that it is impossible for them to raise the money to takd up the note.
If you can in any way arrange for its payment the board will give you any amount
of Real Estate security you may require. a^A^t present I see no way to pay it.
Had I the means, or could I reach it, you know I would not allow you to be anno-
yed with it and I will use every exertion in my power to p^d^ispose of Real Estate even
