Letter from Thomas Edwin Ricks and Others, 17 June 1895
Pres Wilford Woodruff and Counsellors Salt Lake City Ut. Dear Brethren: This afternoon we held a meeting of our Stake Board of Education as the matter of a suitable person to take charge of our Sunday School Normal Course in our Academy this winter was agitated Several names was suggested but after mature deliberation ^we feel^ we really are at a loss for such a one, who in our opinion would do justice to the position except it be Bro Willard Johnson of Rexburg. We find however that Bro Johnson has been called and accepted a mission to the Southern States to leave home August next. We desire to submit the matter to you and ask your early consideration as to what you would advise us to do in the[se] matters, and whether you think it would [page torn] [be possible] to release Bro Johnson and this [page torn]
Letter from Charles Ora Card, 17 June 1895
Prest. Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Utah u.s.a. Dear Brother Since I received your telegram I have arranged to raise $60000 from the Sale of Stock and Grain, consequently will only need $120000 instead of $180000. I can cary matters until the 20th next month, In the mean time if I can raise more from the sale of stock I will wire you in time. If you receive no wire please send the $120000. I will here suggest I think that stock will bring a good price this fall and if it were left to me I would sell enough of the Church had to pay all the ballance on this land & get the title for the whole tract. Then spend a few thousand dollars in getting water out on the land, then sell the land at an advanced price; I believe by so doing you would quadruple your outlay and in a few years realize a great benefit to the church. General good health prevails, crops & stock look well. We have had quite a rainy season here and all nature smiles and the saints her feel much encouraged
