July 22, 1895 ~ Monday

22nd We arrived at the Gardner Inlet about
five o'clock in the morning. I have
been greatly distressed in my health.
for the last three nights. Presidents
Cannon and Smith administered to me
this morning. We stopped by the side
of a jut, 1400 feet out of water and 1500
feet under water. It was a perpen-
dicular granite rock. We broke several
pieces of as mementoes. This steamer
is the first American vessel that ever
visited here. The scenery was wonderful
and grand. We saw many water falls
