Berlin, . Prest. Wilford Woodruff My Dearest Father: You will no doubt have though me a very ungreatfull son before this; as I have not answered your kind favor of the 5th together with Ovando's of Mch. 3rd containing the money you sent me. It was indeed a great surprise to me and I fear you have done yourself an injustice in sending me the last ammount. Am truely thankfull to you and what you sent will see me off in great shape. Should have answered before but have been on the go all the time & I know if you do not hear from me very often now, we still have the hope of seing each other in the near future so you will please pardon my tardy letters. Am having quite a lovely time getting Bro. Wilkins off; he starts Monday and will sail on April 23rd from Glasgow. I will likely be coming along a few months later if our Prest gets through with me. Discourse 1896-03-26
Thursday, . The First Presidency and aApostles met at the Temple at 11 A.M. There were present Prests. Woodruff, Cannon, Smith and Snowm and Elders F. D. Richards, B. Young, F. M. Lyman, J. H. Smith, Geo. Teasdale, H. J. Grant, M. W. Merrill and A. H. Cannon of the Twelve. Elder John W. Taylor had been excused to attend oto other important busi- ness. The Council consulted in reference oto the case of Elder B. H. Roberts, and it was decided that the time had come for him to satisfy the Council that he possessed a con- trite spirit by acknowledging his wrong, and his willingness to do what shall be required. The Council of Seventies were then einvited to meet with the Brethren. Elders S. B. Young, C. D. Felsjeldsted, B. H. Roberts, Geo. Reynold J. G. Kimball, Rulon S. Wells, and Edward Stevenson joined the Council. President Woodruff not feeling well, reqiuested Prest. Geo. Q. Cannon to conduct the meeting, who presented the subject to be considered, and called upon brother Roberts to express his feelings. Elder B. H. Roberts responded by relating the circumstances that led to a change of feeling on his part, and stated that he was now convinced that his was his duty to submit to the authorities of the Church. He admitted that it was his duty to have done this before, and while he had acted in political affairs with all good conscience and honesty of mind, he wished to declare candidly that he was there to submit himself completely to the breth- ren and to try to make whatever staisfaction they might re- quire at his hands. Brother Roberts did this in the true spirit of humility and ovbediience, and Prest. Cannon expressed the joy and satisfaction he felt, in common with all the brethren that at at the spirit now manifested by brother Roberts.
