Letter from Brighamine Hansen Pratt, 4 June 1897
Salt Lake City, . President Woodruff & Council, Dear Brothern, For some six or seven years my hus- band, Parley P. Pratt, one of the Pioneers of 1847, has had but little or no work. During the last five mon- ths he has been out on a lecturing tour. Soon after starting out he took a heavy cold which rendered him unfit for work, and at the time I thought to wright you of his condition; but Mr. Pratt felt when approached on the subject to struggle on hoping to get better. But finally through exposure and cold and over- exertion, Lagrippe set in; when he was obliged to return and now lies at home very sick, haveing lost 27 pounds of flesh. Since being a married man he has spent at least one fourth of his time in the missionary field. He has also contributed hundreds of dollars in Tiths and offer- ings. Letter to Zina Diantha Huntington Jacobs Smith Young, Jane Snyder Richards, and Bathsheba Wilson Bigler Smith, 4 June 1897
Salt Lake City, Utah, . Sisters Zina D. Young, Jane S. Richards, Bathsheba W. Smith, City. Dear Sisters: The labors which devolve upon Sister Zina in the Temple and those connected with the presidency of the Relief Society, prompt us, in consideration of her advanced age, to suggest that she should have some active help in answering correspondence she receives from the various branch societies throughout the Church. Sister Zina Y. Card is visiting here for the present, and we think she would be very suitable to act as her mother's private secretary to attend to her correspondence and other labors connected therewith, that you, and all of you, may be relieved as far as possible from these duties that are so onerous upon you at your time of life. Trusting that this suggestion of ours, whiCch is made solely in the interest of the Relief Society and to benefit each and all of you, will be received in the spirit in which it is offered, and praying the Lord to bless you in all your labors, and to preserve your lives, we remain, with kindest regards, Your Brethren, Wilford Woodruff Geo.
