Letter from William Derby Johnson Jr., 16 October 1897
Colonia Diaz, Pres't Wilford Woodruff, and Counsellors Geo. Q. Cannon & Jos. F. Smith. Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. ch Dear Brethren:- Will you please make an appropriation of labor tithing as you have done heretofore for the pur- pose of building Meeting Houses keeping them in repair, making roads and other public improvements. The condition of many of our people here is such that unless they can pay labor tithing they pay but little thus an appropritation of Labor tithing enables us to collect tithing that otherwise would not be paid, and as it is no loss financially to the church, but a great blessing to the people of this Stake and surrounding country, it also enables us to do much public improvement that otherwise could not be done here. As there are two new branches in the Stake building Meeting Houses we shall need this year $1,500. Labor tithing, which we respe- ctfully ask you to appropriate for our use, and have P.B.O. order sent us to cover same. Praying the Lord to ever bless you. We remain, Your Brethren. approved. Anthony W. Ivins Pres't of Stake. W. Derby Johnson Jr. Stake Tithing Clerk.
