Letter from Orson Smith, 1 February 1898

Prest Woodruff and Counselors Dear Brethern In January 1884 Marie Lousie Johnson was married as a plural wife to John C Christofferson of Richmond Cache Stake. The Woman has made several aplications for a divorce, but until recently I have not known anything of the case. However it has now come to my attention and I have had them together twice and have done all I could, in conection with the Bp of their ward to get them to stay together and the man seems willing to do so, but in the past such a coldness has grown up between them that nothing but a divorce will satisfy the Woman. I therefore reccomend that it be granted her, because I do not believe they will ever become recconciled to each other and the woman seems to be chafing under the tie that binds her. With kindest regards Your Bro Orson Smith
