President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City Dear Bro, I take pleasure in answering your letter and in reply "as regards my mission" will say I deem it agreat honor conferd upon me by my Bishop and those in authority, and as they have concidered me worthy of filling such an important position I will be on hand at the apointed time, and do my work to the best of my ability.

Letter from Clare W. Reid, 16 April 1898
Mant City, President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Dear Brother: Enclosed you find a "List of necessities for Samoan Elders" which I received from brother Ed. J. Woods president of the Samoan mission, with instructions forward the same to the "authorities." I might also add that he wishes me to bring "4 doz. Harper's first readers, 2 doz. second readers and ^a^ few primers; also "any other necessities for teaching boys and girls." He told me to speak to Bro. Reynolds about these things, to be sure and bring them, and that if the church here does not pay for them the church there will.
