Letter from Andrew Kimball, 18 August 1898
Thatcher, Ariz. To The First Presidency Salt Lake City: Dear Bretheren: Elder R. F. McBride of Pima who was called to the South Western States mission and should have left here with Elder F. R. Taylor monday the 15th was arrested by the prosecuting attorney and held as a witness in a recent murder case that took place in Eden. I ask you therefore to kindly release him indefinitely. I will report you when he is released from the case which may come up in 6 mo and mabe a year. We did not try to evade the law in this case in getting him away. It was well known by everybody that he was going on his mission, after coun- ciling with men of law I advised him to leave his deposition with a notary public and if not notified by the court that he would be wanted to proceed about his mission and let them bring him back at their own expense. Respectfully Your Brother Andrew Kimball
Letter from Daniel T. Miller, 18 August 1898
Papeete Tahiti th 1898 To the First Presidency Salt Lake City Utah Dear Brethren Since last writing I have traveled through the Leeward group. The elders there are in good health and spirits. I think that we have good prospects for getting a branch at Huahine, France, Borabora, and Maupiti. Huahine was opened up Feb 1898 and we now have eleven members Borabora was opened up in Nov. 1897 and we now have nine members there. Raiatea was opened up in Sept 1897 and we have five members there. This makes twenty- five for that group. At Borabora the elders feel hopeful that they will have a following of twenty members by the end of the year. At Huahine I met quite a number who were favorable but want ed more to consider. Raiatea and Tahaa are quite better and it will take a strong effort to make an impression there.
