by the above, that I am directed to forward this letter to you
to solicit in the name of the committee and of the proposed
branch of the U. S. Society; the friendly recognition, and
valuable counsel and assistance which we believe the
Universal Scientific Society will cheerfully grant us, on your
rescommendation. The mass meeting held yesterday ratified the
above minutes, and about 30 names were obtained towards
forming the branch. We should be happy to receive a letter from
you or from the corresponding Secretary of the Society by return
of post, and by the instruction and sentiments contained
in it we shall shape our future course
