George Stephenson

George Stephenson (1781-1848) was born 9 Jun. 1781 in Wylam, Northumberland, England. He was the son of Robert Stephenson and Mable Carr. He married Frances Henderson on 28 Nov. 1802 in Newburn, Northumberland, England; widowed 14 May 1806. He married Elizabeth Hindmarsh on 29 Mar. 1820 in Newburn; widowed before 8 Aug. 1846. He married Ellen Gregory on 11 Jan. 1848 in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England. He died 12 Aug. 1848 in Tapton, Derbyshire, England. He was one of the eminent men for whom Wilford Woodruff initiated proxy temple ordinance work in Aug. 1877.
