John Hancock

John Hancock (1737-1793) was born 23 Jan. 1737 in Braintree, Norfolk Co., Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America. He was the son of John Hancock and Mary Hawkes. He married Dorothy Quincy on 28 Aug. 1775 in Middlesex Co., Massachusetts Bay, British Colonial America. He died 8 Oct. 1793 in New Braintree, Worcester Co., Massachusetts. He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence but because his proxy temple ordinance work had been completed by his relative, he was not included among the signers for whom Wilford Woodruff initiated proxy temple ordinance work in Aug. 1877.
