John Williams Gunnison

John Williams Gunnison (1812-1853) was born 11 Nov. 1812 in Goshen, Sullivan Co., New Hampshire. He received orders to survey a route for a Pacific Railroad on 3 May 1853, and Wilford Woodruff recorded that he and seven men in his survey party were attacked and killed by Pahvants (Ute) Indians on 26 Oct. 1853 at Sevier Lake, Millard Co., Utah Territory.
