Joseph Matthews

Joseph Matthews (1809-1886) was born 9 Jan. 1809 in Johnston Co., North Carolina. He was the son of Lazarus Andelle Matthews and Delia Howard. He married Rhoda Carroll on 14 Jul. 1832 in Johnston Co., North Carolina; participated in plural marriage. He was baptized about 1843. He traveled with Wilford Woodruff and the other members of the first pioneer company to the Salt Lake Valley as recorded by Wilford Woodruff on 16 Apr. 1847. He died 14 May 1886 near Pima, Graham Co., Arizona Territory.
