November 05, 1839 ~ Tuesday

5th I left N. York. Crossed the south ferry to Brooklin & took the rail car & went to Hempsted at
which palace the car stoped I walked two miles to the toll gate kept by Br Selah Lane
I spent the night with Br Lane. I had a fair view of the country during the days travel
on Long Island. the serface of the earth is vary level resembling the Illinois prairies
we had a hard storm during the nigh[t]. I spent the day at 23 miles

Nov 5th I left N. Y. crossed the South ferry Brooklin & took the rail car & passed thro- ugh Gamacee & on to Hempsted at which place the car stoped I walked 2 miles to the toll gate kept by Brother Selah Lane I spent the night with Brother Lane. I had a fair view of the country during this days travel which was on Long Island the surface of the earth is vary level some resembling the Illinois prairies. We had a heavy storm during the night {distance of the day} 23 [miles]
