Discourse 1847-12-05
W. Woodruff I view it to be of great importance to us as a ppl. in regard to all maters of this kind, if they come without reasons [a]r[e] given they come in a different view to what they [h]av[e] after the reasons r given. my feelings r now whatever the will of God is that is my will let it come in what shape it may. in the 1st place a query came will the Quo[rum] be filled up - if 3 r taken out to form a 1st pres[idenc]y it seemed like severing a body in two. there were no reasons given me & I desired this, but sho[ul]d courscontinue as it was. I felt if the Quo of 12 were to surrender their power unto 3 I sho[ul]d be totally apposed to it. tho there r some things r brought up ag[ain]st it. my feelings r on Pres[iden]t who stands at our head as s[aint he was moved upon by the Sp[irit] to speak to us. our Presnt seems to be moved upon by the Sp. he stands bet[wee]n us & God & I for one dont want to tie his hands. I dont care what the Al[might] wants—his will is my will. I am perfectly willing that sho[ul]d be the case. with reg[ar]d to l[ea]ve remaining as it is, 3 men holding the keys can ordain any man in the Ch[urch]. Bro Y. go forwd & anoint whom they please. if the Q first Presy hold their station among the Quo of the 12 I am agreed. I dont want to stand in their way & tie up in his hands he is nearer God than I am & I wo[ul]d ra[the]r untie his hands. if the 3 first Presy were sep[arated] from us I [ha]v[e] ad some feelings perhaps they ma be a selfish feeling. As the Presy seems to be movd on by the Sp I am reconciled to it. I b[elieve] I av the disposit[io]n to hedge up his wa[y] I c[oul]d not do it, but I sa[y] God speed him.
