April 12, 1852 ~ Monday

From this conference till Friday Apriail 23rd I
spent the time at home doing my spring work & prepar
ing to go on our Journey to the South on this day April 23rd
I left the city of the great Salt Lake & rode to dry creek in
Utah through a snow storm & spent the night in company
with Brother Nobles on the Bank of the creek 30 miles
The object of this Journey was to accompany the presidency
to visit the southern settlements & explore as far as we had
an opportunity

Political/Government - General Orders of the Nauvoo Legion, 12 April 1852
GENERAL ORDERS No. 1. I. By virtue of authority in me vested by the Governor of the Territory of Utah, under the pro- visions of the laws of said Territory, I hereby enter upon my duties in command of the Nauvoo Legion, comprising the whole of the Militia of said Territory. II. The following appointments are made in the Legion:— 1. JAMES FERGUSON, Adjutant General. 2. LEWIS ROBINSON, Quarter Master General. 3. ALBERT P. ROCKWOOD, Commissary General of Subsistence. 4. JAMES W. CUMMINGS, Pay Master General. 5. WOODVILLE M. ANDREWS, Surgeon General. 6. HIRAM B. CLAWSON, Aides de Camp. 7. JOHN BROWN, [Aides de Camp.] 8. JAMES M. BARLOW, [Aides de Camp.] 9. ORSON PRATT, Topographical Engineers. 10. ALBERT CARRINGTON, [Topographical Engineers.] 11. THOMAS BULLOCK, Military Secretary. 12. WILFORD WOODRUFF, Chaplains. 13. NATHANIEL H. FELT, [Chaplains.] 14. ED. P. DUZETTE, Chief of Music. 15. LOTT SMITH, Color Bearers General. 16. EPHRAIM HANKS, [Color Bearers General.] III. E. D. WOOLLEY, of this place, is appointed Military Store Keeper for Great Salt Lake Military District. IV. The Quarter Master General and Commissary General of Subsistence will furnish the Adju- tant General, as soon as practicable, a correct list of all the property in charge of themselves and the subordinate officers of their Departments with a description of the condition thereof. V. The General Muster of the San Pete, Pauvan, and Iron Military Districts, are appointed as follows, when the Adjutant General, in his capacity of Inspector General, will inspect the respective commands therein:— In Manti City, Saturday the 1st of May, 9 a.m. In Fillmore City, Tuesday, 4th [May] 9 a.m. In Parowan City, Thursday, 7th [May] 9 a.m. VI. Commanders of Districts will issue orders for the company musters provided for by law, and furnish a copy of the same to the Adjutant General, when issued. DANIEL H. WELLS, Lieut. Gen. Commanding.
