Journal Entry

April 22, 1879 ~ Tuesday

22. We drove 8 miles to San Francisco Springs which
had been bought By John W Young but 2 Gentiles had taken
possession of the house and trying to Jump the place
said Dr Vail had sold it to them. there was
but one Man in the house when we went there. we
took the things out of the house and set them into
a waggon and drove them out side of the fence and
took possession of the House 3 Men that John W Young

had highered went to work and cleaned the cabin
out and Deposited all their freight in it the Altitude
of this spring & place is 8040 feet, the place is sheltered on
the East, North & west and by the Mountain on the
South it is open and opens into one of the most Beautiful
natural parks I ever saw in my life it contains about
4000 Acres bordered all around with tall long leaf pine
trees 12 M[iles]

22nd We drove 8 Miles to San FranCisco springs which had been bought fencing Done & House Built By John W. Young But two Gentiles had taken possession of the House trying to jump the place said Dr Vail had sold it to them there was but one man in the House when we went there the other had gone for his family we took the things out of the House & set them into a waggon & drove them out side of the fence and took possession of the House 3 Men that John W Had hired went to work cleared it out & deposited their freight in it the Altitude of this place is 8040 feet the place is sheltered on the East North & west and stands on the East of the most Beautiful natural Park or artificial I ever saw in my life it contained about 4000 acres bordered all around with tall long Leaf pine in the afternoon Howard Young
