July 4, 1879 I attended the funeral of the Drowned Son of Br
Curtis I spoke 30 M[inutes], Lot Smith 25, George Lake 10. I wrote
[FIGURES] 16 Letters to Phebe to Phebe A Snow Wilford, Emma
Nellie
, Henry, Clara, Owen, Blanch, and a letter to Asahel
I gave him good advise I wrote to Br Jaques and sent him
a little History of Joseph Smith the Prophet & Jackson. I
wrote to J G Bleak McAllister Farnsworth & LBY I spent
the Evening in conversation with Lot Smith & the Elders

Sunset Apache Co Arizona John W Young Dear Broth This is about the first time I have had a chance to forward a letter to you since we parted I have felt anxious to heer from you We looked for you to be with us at Conference but suppose your business delaed you. I travelled th[r]ough the montains & timber a good Deal after you left the fire has burned the county all over Men had to fight fire for Days at the Dairy Mill & stop herd in order to save their buildings and any grass for there stock it drove thousands of Deer Antelop & Turkis out of the forest on into parts not busy Broth Bates who presides at the Dairy saw 3 or 400 Antelope in a Day I saw something like 100 Deer in going from one settlement to anoth but Generally when I met Deer or Turkies I was on a horse from whom I could not shoot in safety I belive the fire is still raging south I am Enjoying a good Degree of health I received a package of Letters from you which had been sent to MoanCopy which I was glad to get for I was afraid they were lost I attended the conference at SnowFlake & had a good time Judge Stinson attended Sunday forenoon while I

Dear Clara I wrote you a letter on June 21, I thought I could not write this time to the children, But I must a little. I do want to see you so much I keep your good little song and read it vary freequently I wish I had you with me for a month or two to keep me company and keep house for me, and make up my beds. I have got a little fat Baby boy lying on the floor by me (sucking a piece of candy) about as old as Allice. His mother has gone out, and He is squalling like a painter. I has to take him up, his Mother takes care of my room But I would rather have you and little Allice with me awhile and if you was with me you could ride with me in my carriage or on horsback when I go in the woods. I expect you are a good girl all the time, I want you to learn all you can, write me a good long letter From you Affectionate Father W Woodruff

Letter to Abraham Owen Woodruff and Winnifred Blanche Woodruff, 4 July 1879

Owen & Blanch Dear Children How do you do, & get along. I expect owen does the work out of Doors and Blanch keeps house. I wish I could come and see you The little girles here come & Bring me flowers, and the little Boys come and want me to give them sumthing so I have to give them all my old Envellop that my letters come in. I hope you will both be good children and pray for your Father. I will come home & see you as soon as I can get Clara to write me a letter for you we had to bury up a poor little Boy that got drowned in the River I hope you will not go into any Deep water I pray for you Every day take good care of that Bloned Baby and her mother Your Affectionate Father W Woodruff

[FIGURE] I wrote 16 Letters to Phebe to Phebe A Snow, Wilford, Emma, Nellie Henry, Clara, Owen & Blanch And A letter to Asahel I wrote him a good Letter & gave him good Advice and asked him to let Eldridge Calder and the superintendent of his room read it [FIGURE] I wrote to Br Jaques & sent him a little History of Joseph Smith & Jackson

[FIGURE] I wrote to James G Bleak Br McAllister Farnsworth & L. B. Y & sent all in one Envelope to Br Bleak I Attended the funeral of a Boy named James Curtis son of Moses Curtis who was drowned on the 3rd. I spoke 30 Minut's Lot Smith 25 & Br Georg Lake 10 M, which closed the services this is the way I spent the 4 July I spent the Evening in conversing with Lot Smith & the Elders I wrote till midnight
