Letter from John Henry Smith, 10 May 1884
President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: Your very welcome of march 15th came safely to hand so I wrote to you on the 20th of march, I have delayed answering you until now, not having of interest to write. I am of the opinion that the Legislature would have done well to have allowed the Governors action to have killed the Appropriation bill and have thrown the responsibility upon him. I was also hoping that some spirited member would collect together a list of his infamous [s]ets both of a private and public nature and in a speach upon the floor of the house brand him as a villain, and club him with his own vile record, and have the same go upon the record, it is very likely however that memorial to Congress may answer every purpose. I am pleased to hear that the Indians in the south are taking hold on the Gospel, I trust that much good may come of it. We are just informed by the papers today that Miss Emily Faithfull is going to [lecture] against us in June, showing that the Ladies in Utah are in most fearful slavery or bondage.
