Letter to Mary Campbell, 3 September 1887

Mrs Mary Campbell, Salt Lake City. Dear Sister: I received your letter of the 29th and in reply will say that I should be pleased to have an interview with you if circumstances were so that I could; but I spend my time mostly in the country and not located in the City. My circum- stances are such that I cannot make any appoint- ment in the City with any certainty. I will say I made out a balance sheet of all my accounts with your husband's Estate, which is in the hands of Judge Elias A. Smith. I would advise you to consult with him about your affairs. My circumstances are such that I will not be able to take any further

Letter from George Teasdale, 1 September 1887

President W. Woodruff and brethren of the Apostles. My dear brethren: I had to end my last letter rather abruptly to catch the mail so will con- tinue my report. The Turkish Mission has been quite a tax to this office. It has cost us thirty five pounds this year, which added to what has been already expended makes about one hundred and seven- ty pounds. We hoped to be able to find a missionary to succeed Bro. Tanner whilst on our continental trip but I regret to say I could not. We want some one there who is able to speak german as there are quite a number of Germans in Palestine. Then again he should have some faith or some means to help him as the cir- cumstances of that mission are peculiar. So I am informed and that is the reason why we have supplied the above amount. There were nine souls in the S.S. Wisconsin who left last Satur- day who had been gathered out through this mission. Bro Tanner tells me there have been some more baptized. Bro Hintze has been learning the Turkish language and he is alone in Constan- tinople. There should be another elder to suc- ceed Bro. Tanner. We have some eighty five elders
