Letter from Charles Johnson Jr., 22 September 1887

Grantsville W. Woodruff Dear Brotheren It is with peculiar feelings that I now write you an answer to your call for a mission to New Zealand. I wish that you would write as soon as you get this and give me a few Instructions in regard to how much money it will cost to go from Salt Lake City to New Zealand and any other thing that you think nessary to tell me of, and in regard to getting my Endowments if not best before Conference,

Letter from Olaus J. Nilson, 22 September 1887

Heber . Elder Wilford Woodruff. Dear Brother: In answer to the call made of me to perform a mission to Scandinav I can say I am willing and will try and be in the city to start 15th Oct. [18]87. If there is nothing to hinder and I can raise the means to take me across I will be on hand. I remain your obedient servant in the Gospel. Olaus. T. Nilson. Robert S. Duke Bp. OK

Letter from Andrew Kimball, 22 September 1887

President Wilford Woodruff and the Twelve Apostles, Dear Brethren: Yours of the 2nd has been received, and since sent to the Ind. Ty. as a consolation to the Brethren. Am pleased to receive such encourage- ment, for truly that is a hard mission. I relaize you have plenty to engage your attention but I will enclose a letter from Elder Green who is in charge. You will see that they have no verry smooth time, they are as yet, as they were during my time obliged to be amongst strangers, and pay their way principally. The good old friends who have long been kind to, and made homes for the Elders, are worn out, which naturally makes it hard, as they will have to hire and pay more.

Letter to John William Tate, 22 September 1887

Salt Lake City, Elder John W. Tate, Tooele Dear Brother: Your name has been suggested and accepted as a Missionary to the Southern States. The work of the Lord is progressing in the nations, and faithful, energetic Elders are needed in the ministry to promulgate the everlasting Gospel, openings for doing good appearing in numerous directions. Yourself, with others, having been selected for this Mission, should there be no reasonable obstacles to hinder you from going, we would be pleased to have you make your arrangements to start from this city at as early a date as Tuesday, 1st November, 1887. Please let us know, at your earliest convenience, what your feelings are with regard to this call. Your Brother in the Gospel, Wilford Woodruff P.S. Please have your Bishop endorse your answer.
