& wrote 4 to Jesse Moses, Mary, Sarah, & Bell. The quorum
of the 12 Met to day I was not able to Meet I signed

President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Dear Brother, Elder Robert C. Knell, son of Bishop Robert Knell of Pinto Ward, in St George Stake, by your notification, bearing date 22nd Sept, has been called on a mission to the Southern States. We beg leave to represent that his father, Bp Knell, desires if acceptable to the Lord, and to yourself and the brethren, that the appoint- ment be to England instead of the Southern States. By this means, to which Robert C. willingly assents, the father thinks that in addition to filling a mission his son can gather up some family genealogy in Southamp- ton, England and perhaps in some other places in that Country. Robert C. is Bp Knell's only son. If the change as asked, be made, please notify us by telegram, and also, state time when English missionaries leave Salt Lake City, and we

Hooperville Elder Wilford Woodruff Dear Sir In searching the Book of Doctrine and Covenants I find a revelateaion wherein the Lord says, Behold verily, verily, I say unto you, that ye have received a commandment for a law unto my church through him whom I have appointed unto you to receive revelations and commandments from my hand. [Doctrine and Covenants 43:2]. . . But verily, verily, I say unto you, that none else shall be appointed unto this gift, except it be through him, for if it be taken from him, he shall not have power except to appoint another in his stead. And this shall be a law unto you, that ye receive not the teachings of any that shall come before you as revelations or commandments. [end of sideways text] c/o. Woolley Young & Hardy Co. Salt Lake City, Utah Sept 29th 1887. President Woodruff and the Twelve Apostles. Dear Brethren: At present there are Twenty- one membors of the Church in the Indian Territory, besides Four Elders from Utah. Eleven adults, two of which are Elders, the remainder are children under Eight years of age. One Choctaw man, and his child, (wife doubtful). Three Adults and three children are Cherokee's and Creeks, the rest white. Prospects for more to be added is about as the past. Since April, [18]87, Three white men have been baptized, and two children blessed. (included in the above total.) Many Indians declare their belief in the Gospel but dont obey it. The Elders have traveled over the greater portion of the Cherokee Nation
