Letter from George Washington Thatcher, 8 August 1888
Pr[e]st. Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City. Dear Brother: There is a matter I wish to lay before you for your consideration, whilch, I think, is of considerable imp- ortance. It is this: The Trust Deed of the Brigham Young College makes it the duty of the President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to appoint the Trustees of said College and fill vacancies occurring. I would suggest that some other persons be appointed to take the places of Brothers C. O. Card, M. D. Hammond and Sister Ida Ione Cook, as they are absent from the country and have been for some two years. The remaining members of the Board, as you are aware, can only be gotten at occasionally, and we are many times unable to get a Board together for the transaction of business. For any further information regarding this matter, I would respectfully refer you to the other Trustees, Brothers B. Young, Moses Thatcher and Wm. B. Preston. With kind regards to yourself and brethren with you, I remain, Your brother in the Gospel, G. W. Thatcher
