Letter from William Derby Johnson Jr. and Others, 28 September 1888
O. Diaz. To Prest W Woodruff and the Council of the Twelve & to whoom it may Concern We the undersigned in view of our cramped situation in regard to range for our Stock, & in consequence of the exorbitant charges demanded for pasturage by Land holders adjoin ing us, deem it absolutely necessary that we obtain more land. And as there is at present Five citeos or about 22,185 ^21,690^ acres joining on to this the church purchase, much of which is excellent, Farming land, ^&^ water for which can be obtained and upon which there is already sufficient water for Stock, (whereas upon this the Church purchase there is no living water). Respectfully ask that you consider the matter of purchasing, or aiding us in the purchase of said Land as we think we could borrow the money needed of Zion's Saving Bank, or of some Individual, by giving good security & pledging ourselves to keep the Int. paid up providing said mLoan can be obtained at reasonable ^rate of^ Int- & not to exceed eight % per annum. Your aid Council & Advise is earnestly Solicited. (over)
