President Wilford Woodruff & Council Salt Lake City Dear Brethren We find in putting our stake, and wards in order, and trying to carry out the instructions of the Presiding Bishop in regard to Tithing the following cases which we desire some information on. First where an individual moving from one locality to another, does not bring his certificate of membership, and fails to identify himself with the ward by baptism. Yet clames a member- ship in the church, and are slothful in attending to their duties as members. We find in calling persons of this descrip- tion to account for their waywordness although they may have lived in a ward from one, to six years, as the case may be, they take advantage of such a technical point that the presiding authoraties have no jurisdiction in their cases. We desire to know what cource to pursue, in these matters, and whether there are any limitation governing

Letter from Ebenezer Beesley, 10 January 1889

Salt Lake City . President Woodruff, and Council of the Twelve, Dear Bretheren I wish to know whether the Tabernacle can be obtained for the purpose of giving a grand concert, as Madam Camilla Urso is coming here at the beginning of next month and Mr Kent is making the arrangments for her appearance and would like to have the use of the Tabernacle so that the masses of the people could have the oppertunity of hearing one of the greatest living lady violinists at popular prices. There are also five other musical artists with the lady and some of our home talent could also be used. I also wish to know if the Tabernacle Choir could have the use of the Tabernacle or the Assembly Hall, in which to give a musical entertainment which would be of a nature suitable to the character of the building, and upon what terms we could have it. We find that the Theatre is not at all suitable for such purposes. With kind regards I am Your Brother in the Gospel E. Beesley.
