Letter from Jens Peter Folkman, 12 February 1889
Ogden, Utah, Prest. Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother—Your communication relative to my filling a Mission to Scandinavia to start either on the 5th March, or the 9th or 30th of April next, received, and fully noted. In reply will say, I am engaged in the Mercantile business, and could not wind up my affairs by the 5th of March or even the 30th of April, but could arrange matters by next fall, if you wish me to fill a mission then. Do not infer from the above that I am unwilling to respond, but my business ^is such^ are such that I could not possibly go before next fall. I am getting on in years—am over 60 years old, and my health is poor, but I am ever ready to do my part in forwarding the Work of the Lord. Your Brother, J. P. Folkman I fully endorse the above statement, being ac- quainted with Bro. Folkman's condition. G. W. Bramwell, Jr Bp

Letter from David Henry Cannon, 12 February 1897
President Wilford Woodruff, Salt Lake City, Utah. My Dear Brother: Your kind invitation to be present at the meeting which is to be held on the ninetieth anniversary of your birth day and the fifty ninth of sister Woodruff's — came to hand this morning. I am greatful to you for the consideration — shown to myself and family, i would give us great pleasure to be present, but circumstances over which we have no control will make it impossible for us to do so. I pray the Good Father to preserve your life for many years to Lead and Bless Israel, and sister Woodruffs to be a great comfort and blessing to you. My health has been poor for sometime, having been confined to my room for fifteen days. I think with La Grippe accompanied with a severe cold. I thank the Lord that I am now better, although still quite weak. I am pleased to know that Thatcher was not
