December 16, 1889 ~ Monday

16 I signed ^10^ Recommends I received ^8^ Letters
I wrote ^2^ Letters to Phebe & Susan Scholes & sent
them $20 for Christmass. I wrote to Sarah & sent her $10
I wrote to Delight & sent her $35 for Christmass,
$20 for Herself & John & Julia & $5 each for Marion
Ensign & Emeline ^Emma & family $40^ Total sent to day $65.

An arrow We had a funeral to day at the Lion house over
the Body of the wife of Charles S Burton her name
was Julia Young Burton the Adopted Daughter of president
Brigham Young. there was a large Assembly at the
funeral Brother John Henry Smith and Orson
Whitney
& George Q Cannon there was 35 carriges
in the procession I spent the night at the farm 6 m[iles]

Mesa, Ariz. Pres Wodruff Dear Brother I Recd your letter of 20th and hav perhaps too long delayed my answer I cannot help feeling grotefull for being remembered with such a call and am anxious to go so soon as the present obstacle shall be removed, which is a contest against my farm which no other but my self can attend, it will be settled in March or April after which time I shall be pleased to report my self ready as ever your Brother Brigham. Oberlin, O., Wilford Woodruff: Dear Sir. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of "Bancrofts Story of Utah" and Reynold's Story of the book of Mormon" for which please accept the thanks of the Library Council. As the posessor of the so-called "Manuscript Found" of Solomon Spaulding, it is natural that we should desire to get as complete a collection of works on Mormonism, both for, and against. We should be glad to have additions made to the present collection—Sometime ago I saw that Mr. George Q. Cannon had presented quite a collection to some Kansan College— If there are books, presenting the standpoint of Mormons, which are thus gratuitously distributed, please consider us an applicant for the same. President Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Utah U. S. Dear Brother The enclosed letter came to my hands by our last relay of mail and I again enclose it to you.
