Letter from Levi Mathers Savage, 21 October 1889
Levi M Savage Logan Rec at 23/89 Ans. Oct 23/89 Logan, Oct 21" 1889 President W. Woodruff; Salt Lake City, Dear Brother; Your greatly esteemed letter of the 19" inst. came to hand this morning. In rely I wish to say, that I have always tried to hold myself ready to re- spond to the calls of the Priesthood; and if the present matter is a call of the Priesthood, asking me to go to Snowlake, and take charge of the Academy there, then I am quite willing, and hope I shall be found trying to fill the the mission in honor and in a satisfactory manner to those
Letter from William Moroni Palmer, 21 October 1889
[sideways text] Wm M Palmer. City Rec oct 21 [18]89 ans oct 21 [18]89 [end of sideways text] Office of The Contributor Company, HERALD BUILDING. Salt Lake City, Oct 21 1889 To the presidency Church My dear brethren Since I learned that some had come to the con- clusion from reading the Heraldn and Provo Enquirer that I [am] promised my self before the court, it has caused me much sorrow, not that I feel con- demned before the Lord in the least for he knows I done no such thing, and that I would of rather died than do such a thing. But it apears that Apostles (and if them no doubt thousands of others) have goton that idea, because of the lightness of the Sentence and what those two papers say. Bro. Booth will not say so. Now what troubles me is that saints to whom I have preached so much and born my solemn testimony so many times should think I in the least had gone back on it, and my (suposed) example ^might^ cause others to fall, and also my brethern in authority to s loos confidence in me thus hendering me from doing good among the people, for I have no other desire I believe than to asist my fellow man. I desire to do right with all my heart, I therefore have never made any important move without first asking council
