9. I met with several of the Brethren to day I wrote
2 letters to Henry Lewis Woodruff & J. G. Bleak

Logan Utah, Prest Wilford Woodruff Dear Brother— Your favor of the 6th inst Recd and contents noted Will say I do not want to be considered the accuser of the Brethern and I do not want to be so straight that I lean back, what called fourth my letter to you on the 2nd inst was some remark made to one of My sons by My Son in law Joseph Kerr, of Richmond, who is an ardent and enthuss tick Democrat, who said that the authorities of the Church had called one Hundred young Men as Missionaries to the young mens associations of the Church and onely two or three [of] the 100 were Republicans, and said thes shows how you repu[bl]licans ore though of by the Presidency of the Church &c this young m[a]n Joseph Kerr Shouted Himself Horse over the victory of Jos. [L.] Rawlings when He knew full well what said Rawlings said about [C]hurch authorities at Provo & also at Salt Lake. thes to me is not consist[an]t in a Missionary as said Joseph Keer is one of the number called. I un[der]stand the Presidency of thes Stake does not know who is called [fr]om their stak to fill this Mission, perhaps you are aware that some p[ar]ties are determined to make this Teretory Democratic in the future, and what mea[sure] will be used to accomphes thes end I cannot say. I hope you will not con[sid]er me over zelous in this Matter for I do not want to be Respe[ctfu]lly yours M. W. Merrill
