March 14, 1893 ~ Tuesday

14 ^ An arrow^ The Loan & trust Company building at Ogden is burned
out this morning which is a great Loss to the people said
to be $200000. I met with the quorum of the Twelve
Apostles & Joseph F Smith upon the subject of giving
Recommends to the members of the Church to go to the
Dedication of the Temple & we resolved to give recommends
to all who had a standing in the Church to attend the
dedication of the Temple I visited the mum^m^ies that were
got in the caves of Sanwan County & were to be taken
to the worlds fair in Chicago not as well preserved as
were the Mummies of the catacombs of Egypt. On my
returmn home I found Alice worse we sent for Dr Richards
He reported she had a light form of the Diptheria

Salt Lake City, Utah. . Prest. David K. Udall St. Johns Stake of Zion, Dear Brother: We forward you a special form of recommend for admission to the dedication services in the Temple. Instruct the Bishops to issue one to each individual tenatitled thereto, that is, to every person who has a standing in the church and desires to come. T[h]e number of certificates furnished is according to the estimate you sent us. There should be no delay. We will inform you later as to the dates when your people can attend the services. Letter to David King Udall, 14 March 1893

Salt Lake City, Utah. . Prest. David K. Udall, St. Johns Stake of Zion. Dear Brother: You have already been advised of the decision of a recent meeting of the First Presidency and Apostles with regard to those who should be admitted to the dedicatory services at the Temple in this City. To-day another meeting was held and the question again considered and it was unanimously decided by the brethren present that greater leniency should be shown to the people, and that all having a membership in the church, who so desire, sholuld have the privilege of being present and t[he] [page folded] recommends for this purpose should be granted them on their application. If any question of unworthiness arise it should be decided by the pr[esently] [page folded] constituted church courts in the regular manner, but the request for a recommend to attend these services should not be made the occasion of investigating a member's fellowship. Please communicate this decision to the Bishops in you[r] [page folded] Stake without delay. Your Brother, Wilford Woodruff
