Dear Brother: In answer to yours of last month, asking me to go on a mission to New Zealand; I will say it is my desire to go where and when I am called by the servants of God, and will go on this mission if I can get money to take me there. Letter from Thomas Edwin Ricks, 26 August 1893

Rexburg, Idaho, Prest. W. Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother, Your favor of 18th inst. with enclosed letter of Brother L. L. Booth which letter I now return herewith—I employed Bro. Booth last summer to help ^him^ to something to live on but did not promise him any cash. I paid him store pay and such things as he needed for his family whenever he asked but during the winter he lived off the ward instead of drawing what I owed him when he could have had his pay. Brothers Bramwell and Donaldson whom he refers to in his letter both contradict his statements. The letter enclosed indicates what kind of man he is, it is just a sample of what he has been continually writing all over since he came here and about his Bishop and others to me before he moved into Rexburg First ward.
