Letter from Orson Smith, 10 February 1894

Dear Brother
At a high council meeting held Feb 2nd
1894, The name of Elijah Pearce was
presented to consider his worthiness
for the ^his^ restoration to the Priesthood
His reccomendation was endorsed by
his Bishop and counselors. Bro Pearce
was cut off the church 9 years ago for
lacivious conduct. 5 years ago he was
permitted to be baptized, and since then
has manifested a repentant spirit.
The council were unanimous in the
opinion that he should recieve the
Priesthood and presented the decision to
[Preat] Feldstead of the seventies, as Bro
Pearce was a seventy prior to being
dealt with. I have now recieved a
letter from the secretary of the council
of seventies, saying that it could not
be done without special permit from
you. I therefore submit the matter
