2nd ^ A folded letter/box^ I received 2 letters from Owen one to me
& one to Blanch Also 1 from James J Woodruff
Owen wrote in a vary good spirit Presidents
Cannon & Smith returned from Bannock conference
^ A hand pointing to the right^ I wrote 5 Letters to Sarah, Mary, Owen James &c we
met with several of the Twelve concerning the course
John W Taylor was taking

3. I got an order from the Tithing office for Asahel
on the Millard Stake for 2000 lbs of oats for feed &
100 bushels of seed grain this Borrowed for AW [Asahel Woodruff]
till fall to cultivate the Desert Land for seed
The Twelve meet this morning in council I had an
interview with Orson Smith of Logan & Jary Langford
about afairs in the west

In reply to same I will say, Thy will be done O Lord I am on hand, only I feel weak and the outlook is dark but if there is a place the Lord wants me I shall try to be pre- pared to start when wanted Sep 1st next, altho the my financial ^affair^ are such that it will require much faith with an effort. Ogden, Utah, 189 President Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City Dear Brother—Your letter Mch 24th stating that my name had been suggested and accepted as a misssionary to Great Britain was duly received. After careful consideration of my circumstances and conditions I respectfully submit the following: For the past five years I have been afflicted with Sciatica and at times with affections of the Rectum causing serious pain and distress. I have found that I cannot depend upon upon my health enabling me to perform my labors and duties in life. I have a pecuniary obligation of $400.00 which is now past due. I have a family of ^a^ wife and three children depending upon me for support. I have always felt it my duty to do all I can as a Servant of God in helping to bear off His work upon the Earth. I have now informed you of my situation and circumstances and if you desire me to perform this Mission I will endeavor to do so to the best of my ability. If on the other hand you deem it wise to release me I will endeavor to so shape my affairs in future that with the blessing of health and the grace of God I hope to be in such a position as to merit a call. in the future. Co Utah Bro Woodruff Ser B. Sur ^I^ Reseved your letter of March the 16th on March the 26 th and I was of a way from hom about seventy mils w^h^en ^I^ resend it and was surpris me and am not fixed to go now with such a shurt ntice as my sircomstances is in such a shape that could not go till fall but if you wish and the lord will be don and not ours and the bishop will rit to you and maby that he can hone ect. explain.
