Letter from Abraham Owen Woodruff, 29 June 1894

Dearest Father:
Your kind and welcome letters of 8th and 13th
received and I will take pleasure in trying to
carry out the good instructions you gave me. Yesterday
I left my room about 7 o'clock a.m. accompanied by
my present companion Bro. Bryner, we walked about 11
hours gathering in some of our "Tracts." Where we had
the most lively time was in a Catholic Village. We
had spoken to a woman but a short time when she
appeared to have the devil lay hold of her as soon as
our backs were turned to go way. She began to scream
and yell like Satan and curse us and call us "False
Prophet" and "False Christ." She said she had the Virgin
Marie and Jesus in her heart and that was enough to
save her. However she soon got a good many of the
womean of the Village to yelling and screaming, curseing,
and swearing so we had to leave in rather short
order to prevent trouble; had we not have finished
our errand we should not have done so. I returened to
my room almost "fagged" by the long days walk and feleling
a little sad, when I was called out to administer to two
sick people one they thought had "diptheria." Before we left
they were both feeling better. These things all tend to streng-
-then ones testimony. Being called "false" does not make one so.
As you say none of us will have to go through what our Saviour
did and he was not False. I felel fine Pa & Pray God to bless
you in life and health and ever comfort your heart and make you
