[end of sideways text] Thatcher, President Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: I am in receipt of your letter of the 20 Inst. wherein you wish to know my feelings in regard to performing a mission at Samoa. I am here taking care of one of my Fathers wives who has no children and is getting old and very poorly in health. I have just got married and have not got a house built yet. Were I to take in consideration my circumstances it would seem impossible for me to leave. I cant see where I can raise the money unless I can sell my team and wagon which I am willing to do.
