San Francisco, Cal., . Prest. Wilford Woodruff Salt Lake City, Utah. Dear Brother: Replying to your recent favors—I can say that I have found a wholesale establishment where I can get our Mission cards printed at the rates of $1.00 per thousand in ten thousand lots, which is nearly as cheap again as you can have them done there, and three times as cheap as we got our others printed for—which was $3.00 per thousand. I am satisfied with the answer you gave about colonizing California. I am also willing to be as economical as possible in the mission for I realize the stringency in money matters, but if we are successful here, we will have to have means until we get a thorough foot-hold. The mission is at a very low ebb and it will take a superior power to raise it, but if we are successful here we will have to shape circumstances and not let circumstances shape us, for this people
